Empowering Kids Through
Food, Culture, and Education

We believe food isn't just what we eat.
It's who we are.

We work with communities to help the younger generation celebrate their cultural food heritage while building healthy eating habits that support lifelong well-being. With the support of our growing community, we're working to expand CHIFAN's reach to more schools and cultures in New York City.

Kid’s First Taste of Nutrition Education

Kid’s First Taste of Nutrition Education

For many students, it’s their very first time engaging with food, health, and culture in such a hands-on, joyful way — and they dive right in.

“They don't get nutrition lessons during DOE time. It's the first time for them...A group of volunteer make sure the students are always engaging in the activity each week. And the kids love it.”

--Timothy Chin, Program Director, PS124, New York

Go Beyond the Classroom

Go Beyond the Classroom

Our work extends beyond classroom instruction to promote lasting changes in students’ daily habits and family environments. By encouraging behavior change at both individual and household levels, CHIFAN fosters a broader culture of health within the community.

“Now I’m seeing them open up to new foods…Some parents have told me their kids are eating healthier, choosing options that are less sugary or salty. In terms of health, this is a clear positive impact the program has had on the students.”

--Mr. Yu, School Teacher, PS124, New York

“Volunteering with CHIFAN has been a rewarding, meaningful experience. One of my favorite lessons, Food and Festival, explored how different cultures celebrate the New Year through food, like dumplings for Chinese New Year and grapes in Spain for good luck. I've seen the kids become more curious and confident about making healthy food choices, and it's been a privilege to work with a team that values connecting with them through both nutrition education and culture.”

--Daivd Kim, CHIFAN Instructor
